On 15 February, the Beijing office of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, under its President, Robert Shi, participated in the annual seminar of overseas NGOs hosted by the international division of the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and the Environment. On 19 and 20 April, Robert Shi attended a seminar on cyanobacteria. In his opening address, Mr Shi said that the Lake Taihu project, which the Foundation has been supporting for several years, is an example of successful management of cyanobacteria bloom. The scope of the project, now in its second phase, has been extended to include the preservation of the aquatic ecosystem of the Yangzi Jiang River.
To mark the 23rd International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 May, Robert Shi was interviewed by Xinhua News Agency on the role that the Foundation, alongside WWF, has played since 2011 in protecting the Amur tiger. Lastly, on 1 September, for the second year, Tsinghua University and the Chinese branch of the Foundation renewed a partnership supporting a grant programme for students working in the field of environmental protection. Earlier in the year, within the framework of the partnership, the Chinese branch of the Foundation and the Tsinghua University Education Foundation organised a panel discussion bringing together 15 grant recipients, including two doctorands from the Tsinghua University School of Environment. They shared their experiences with the audience, as well as upcoming projects in their respective areas of research
