An outstanding evening for Mandela Day

Monaco

Events

On 18 July, for Nelson Mandela's 105th birthday, his Foundation and the Anant & Vanashree Singh Foundation joined forces, with the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, to celebrate his legacy.

Every year on 18 July, Mandela Day pays tribute to the life of Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) throughout the world. This year, the Nelson Mandela Foundation wanted to organise a gala evening in his honour in the Principality of Monaco, where Madiba had visited on several occasions, at the invitation of Prince Rainier III and Prince Albert II.

The evening began with a public screening of the film "Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom" at the Théâtre Princesse Grace, in the presence of producer and friend of Madiba, Anant Singh. Welcomed by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Princess Zenani Mandela-Dlamani, Nelson Mandela's eldest daughter and South Africa's ambassador to South Korea, delivered a moving speech in which she recalled her father's commitment to equality and peace and the need to continue to draw inspiration from this strength of spirit to resist oppression, to assert justice over inequality, dignity over humiliation, forgiveness over hatred.

A gala dinner was then held at the Yacht Club of Monaco in the presence of TTSSHH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Princess Charlène.
