Save the date: 29th European Heritage Days
Monaco
In its third year of participation in the European Heritage Days, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is delighted to welcome the public on Sunday 15 September 2024 from 10am to 5pm.
This year, for the first time, the Villa Girasole can be visited in its entirety, thanks to the participation of the International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean (CIESM), which occupies the first floor, and the public will be able to discover the restoration of the exceptional 19th-century leather wall hangings in one of the ground-floor salons.
Animal sculptures by Olivier Bertrand, made from recycled cardboard, will be on show exclusively that day, both indoors and outdoors, and there will be a guided tour of the artist's work at 11.30 am (30 min.). By creating life-size animals from a utilitarian product destined to be thrown away, Olivier Bertrand explores the duality between the subject and its material to draw attention to the precariousness of animal species.
Another highlight will be at 3pm, with a ‘strolling’ presentation of the activities of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, by Philippe Mondielli, Scientific Director of the Foundation, and his teams, and of the CIESM, by its Managing Director Laura Giuliano, in the light of the European Heritage Days theme, ‘Roads, Networks and Connections’. The migratory routes of animal species in need of protection, roads designed to ensure harmonious cohabitation between man and nature, the development of networks of marine protected areas, the interconnection of ecosystems... these are just some of the examples that will be discussed by the two organisations - in different locations in the villa - to present their work to preserve the world's natural heritage.
Free admission (entire villa) from 10 am to 5 pm.
