The Human - Wildlife Initiative supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation extends its action to French Swiss region (Romandy)

Initiative

Building on its success in the Sud-Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region since its creation in 2020, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation's Human-Wildlife Initiative has also expanded its efforts to Spain in 2023, where similar challenges are being addressed. The Spanish branch of the Foundation has partnered with Fundación Entretantos and the Observatorio Grupo Campo Grande for this programme.

This  this year the initiative is now extending to Suisse Romande, in collaboration with 3 technical partners who form the region's steering committee:

  • Fondation KORA is dedicated to the study of large carnivores and the management of wildlife in Switzerland. It focuses on the conservation of species such as the lynx, wolf, bear, as well as the wildcat and the golden jackal, recently observed in Switzerland. KORA analyzes the lifestyle of these carnivores, monitors the evolution of their populations, and assesses their impact in a human-dominated landscape.

  • PRONatura, founded in 1909, is the oldest nature conservation organization in Switzerland. It manages approximately 750 nature reserves and around ten nature centers while working to preserve biodiversity, protect landscapes, and conserve natural resources. Its goals include strengthening biodiversity, protecting landscapes, conserving natural resources, and improving the connection between individuals and nature.

  • The Swiss Ornithological Station is a public utility foundation dedicated to the study and protection of birds. Based in Sempach, it monitors native species, studies their behaviors, and implements conservation measures for endangered species. The station also cares for injured and orphaned birds, informs the public, and manages a visitor center to raise awareness of bird conservation.

This year the Initiative is opening its call for projects in 3 countries. The aim is to identify and provide financial support to local players working on cohabitation projects at local level. The registration period, from  September 10th to October 31st 2024, therefore concerns Romandy for the first time, Spain for the second time and is the Initiative's fifth call for projects for France.
