As part of the second edition of PhiloMonaco Week, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation once again joined Les Rencontres Philosophiques for a day dedicated to Ecology, on Tuesday 13 June 2023.
In the presence of HSH the Sovereign Prince the discussion on ecology was launched during the morning session at the Marché de la Condamine. Gathered around Charlotte Casiraghi, founding member of Les Rencontres Philosophiques, Massimo Amato, professor of economics, Ramona Bloj, editor-in-chief of the magazine GREEN, Adrien Estève, post-doctoral researcher at the CNRS and author, Gilles Gressani, director of Le Grand Continent, and Guillaume Le Blanc, philosopher, discussed the concept of ecology, recalling the multiplicity of its forms and issues in our daily lives. Talking about the relationship between man and the living world takes us beyond a purely environmental approach and raises societal, political, economic, and anthropological questions. Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, spoke about the transformative power of the narratives in opening up new paths towards a resilient future that is no less desirable.
A philosophy lunch with the young philosopher Amaena Guéniot, hosted by Robert Maggiori, a founding member of Les Rencontres Philosophiques, to discuss her recent book "Terre brisée. Pour une philosophie de l'environnement", underlined the strength of the philosophical tradition in rethinking the conditions and purposes of human activity in the new context led by environmental disaster.
A discussion and round table followed at the Théâtre Princesse Grace: "Sobriety, virtue or necessity?" with Guillaume Leblanc, Joëlle Zask and Raphael Zagury-Orly, founding member of Les Rencontres Philosophiques, and "The new world energy order" with Massimo Amato, Ramona Bloj, Adrien Estève and Gilles Gressani.
A whole day dedicated to deepen essential subjects and identify new ways of approaching them.
Other themes have been explored during this PhiloMonaco Week, orchestrated by Laura Hugo, Director of Les Rencontres Philosophiques, and her team - Education, Care, Women, the Art of Living - offering inspiring conversations from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 June 2023.
