Monaco
Press release
On 23rd August, the Société Monégasque des Eaux and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation signed a sponsorship agreement aimed at supporting the Foundation's actions in response to current environmental issues.
The Société Monégasque des Eaux wishes to contribute in particular to two actions related to marine conservation, over a three-year period:
- The Pelagos Initiative, launched in 2021 by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, WWF, IUCN and MedPAN, which aims to fund activities supporting the protection, conservation and promotion of the Pelagos Sanctuary, in accordance with the management plan of the Pelagos Agreement. The Pelagos Sanctuary, an area of 87,500 km2 that stretches across the Principality of Monaco, France and Italy, is an area of remarkable biodiversity of marine mammals.
- The Foundation’s mission to protect coral reefs, for example by creating a future coral conservatory, led by the Scientific Centre of Monaco and the Oceanographic Institute with the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. This conservatory will rely on an international network of public aquariums and will cultivate the most vulnerable species, in order to contribute to the preservation of these ecosystems and to create, on a global scale, a "Noah's Ark" for corals.
