Events
As part of the celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the Principality of Monaco's membership of UNESCO (1949-2024), the Principality's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO organised an exhibition of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation's 2024 Environmental Photography Award – of which it was a partner – in the prestigious Hall Ségur at its Paris headquarters from 3 to 14 October.
At the opening of the exhibition, H.E. Mrs Anne-Marie BOISBOUVIER, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Principality of Monaco to UNESCO, pointed out in her speech that the Environmental Photography Award reflects the Principality's ambition to work towards a peaceful relationship between Man and Nature, while improving understanding of the impact of human activities on our planet's ecosystems. She also emphasised the importance of images and photography, which can arouse reactions and transmit emotions, leaving a more lasting imprint on people's consciences than figures and reports.
More than a hundred people were present at the opening ceremony, including the President of UNESCO's General Conference, H.E. Mrs Simona-Mirela MICULESCU, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, Mrs Lidia BRITO, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Culture, Mr Ernesto OTTONE, the Secretary of the MAB Programme, Mr Antonio ABREU, as well as Mr Alain Leroy, member of the Board of Directors of the Prince Albert II Foundation, and a great many Ambassadors. In order to raise young people's awareness of environmental issues, several young students living at the Fondation de Monaco in Paris were also present at the event, accompanied by Mrs Martine GARCIA-MASCARENHAS, Director of the Fondation de Monaco at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris.
