The aim of the project is to ensure that the yachting industry supports the growth of sustainable forest management in the least developed countries of the world. Today, the industry often uses timber species which are at best over-exploited and at worst endangered. With this project, we wish to urge the industry to change this practice primarily through the demonstration of good examples –showing the alternatives and proving their equal usefulness.

To secure the basis of change in the industry, we see the need of changes throughout the full supply chain. As a result, the project will commence by ensuring the steady supply and processing of relevant lesser used species for the industry. This will be done through engaging and motivating the importers of tropical timber from endangered forests. The potential promise for supply, and sustainable management of forest is already established, but in need of market support to remain. We will conduct a market study and trade mission to prove the market potential. Next we will identify the 20 most relevant substation species to traditional choices.
