The purpose of this project is to preserve the Olytyiani Conservancy, a recently protected buffer space. Oltyiani is a name recently given to this area by the communities, within the context of a potential conservation project.
In the face of environmental degradation, declining water resources, growing conflict between humans and wildlife, and the impoverishment of the Maasai people, concentrated mainly in this region, InterActions & Solidarity is implementing participatory measures to protect biodiversity and improve the economic situation of the communities.
The aim of the programme is to develop a sustainable management system for natural resources in this buffer zone belonging to the local communities. The local populations will continue to live in their traditional dwellings, and this buffer zone could be linked to the Whole Heartland Programme. The project consists of four objectives:
-Guarantee water resources with the rehabilitation and management of a water supply that is currently drying up
-Implement an anti-poaching strategy and reduce conflicts between humans and wildlife
-Perpetuate these achievements and secure access to basic community services by introducing an income-generating activity
-Create an animal sanctuary and a small tourist camp (Amboseli Eco Camp - AEC), which should generate the subsidies necessary in the long-term.
